Dear Mayor Hulett.
Dear City Council Members.

Shinan became Sister city with Granbury in 2006.
Dog-meat consumption is currently being practiced in that city, regardless of the fact that it is illegal under South Korean Law – but the laws are not enforced.

The dog and cat meat trades involve extreme and widespread animal cruelty, and the animals suffer unimaginable pain and distress.
For your information:

They cannot speak for themselves which is why I am writing on their behalf.

I believe that your city wishes to be made aware of this ongoing issue, and not want to be affiliated with a city where illegal and immoral torture is being carried out on any animal, and particularly not on those that are loyal, trusting and sentient creatures, which look up to us humans as being their guardians.

These illegal trades are still being allowed to continue by Korean authorities – even though there is a large growing opposition from pet owners across South Korea, and throughout the world.

So, I am asking you to please speak with your counterparts in Shinan, especially Mayor Gil-Ho Koh, to urge them to enforce their own laws, not ignore them, and to show compassion towards their companion animals, and respect to their own citizens, by bringing these brutal trades finally to an end!

With the Winter Olympics coming up in 2018, this is the time to make change; this is the time to stop the illegal, inhumane and unnecessary cruelty.

I know that South Korea has many beautiful, admirable and noble practices and customs worth preserving, but this is not one of them.

Thank you for your time and understanding.
Please let me know how you feel about this so often concealed subject, thank you.

Subject: UN  Food and Agriculture Organization: about the Dog meat trade in Asia

United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization,
Sir, madam, To whom it concerns:

We are reaching out to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations help put an end to the dog meat trade in Asia.
As an international organization dedicated to the eradication of hunger and to the proper use of natural resources to maintain sustainable food sources, you have the ability to use your organization and influence to bring awareness to this subject.

In South Korea alone, 2.5 million dogs are slaughtered and consumed each year. The farming and methods of slaughter are unregulated, and this allows the meat trade industry to practice in an entirely uncontrolled environment. The methods utilized in this poorly regulated industry are barbaric, and the conditions under which these animals are kept are horrendous.

The health risks to humans are all too real. By the time these dogs are slaughtered, they are so sick with untreated broken bones, infections and malnutrition, that anyone who has not themselves witnessed the documentaries of this practice has no idea that the meat that is going into their “health soup” has been harvested in the most disgusting and unsanitary fashion.

The slaughter methods themselves are nothing short of sadistic and inhumane. They promote the misguided belief that the adrenaline release which occurs at death improves the quality of the meat, so that the dogs are purposefully tortured and made to experience extreme fear and suffering at slaughter. This often takes the form of prolonged beatings while being hanged, and smaller dogs and cats are boiled alive to make “tonics” which are purported to treat ailments such as rheumatism.

It has been well-documented that the treatment of these dogs is unimaginably cruel and inhumane. From birth to death they are kept in cramped cages raised off of the ground, so that their feet never touch the ground their entire lives. They are fed food wastes in extremely unsanitary conditions. Their treatment during transport to slaughter is horrific. They are packed so tightly into cages like stuffed animals that many die from being crushed by the weight of the other dogs. They must endure extreme heat and cold, and are given no water during the days-long trek, so that many die of dehydration.

We are asking you to help bring awareness and a solution to this problem.

An online petition calling for your support in ending the horrendous South Korean dog and cat meat cruelty is in progress: https://www.change.org/p/united-nations-food-and-agriculture-organization-unfao-the-dog-meat-trade-in-asia-is-unregulated-industry-imposing-dangerous-health-risks

Animal Welfare Bill Sri Lanka

 ---------------------------------------------

Subject: Animal Welfare Bill Sri Lanka

Honorable President, Prime Minister, Rural Economic Affairs Minister:

As you are aware, Sri Lanka’s Animal Welfare Bill which received Cabinet approval on 13 January 2016 is yet to be passed by Parliament, giving it the force of law.

Today, our animals -  stray, captive, domestic or wild, face many  difficulties at the hands of humans. They are beaten, abused, exploited, stoned, shot, trapped, killed, neglected  and exposed to many other forms of cruelty daily.

We are a compassionate nation and our government claims to be a compassionate government. But compassion needs to be demonstrated through action rather than just words.
There is no more time to lose. The time to act is now.

I humbly request that you do what is needed to speed up the process so that the long outstanding Animal Welfare Bill is finally enacted in Sri Lanka so that it becomes law.
Any nation and especially one with our heritage must show commitment to animal welfare and there is no better way of demonstrating that , than by ensuring  that this Bill is enforced without further delay.

I along with many of Sri Lanka’s citizens would like to create an environment where animal lives are protected by law so that they too have the chance to live their lives in peace in our beautiful country.
Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Subject: Leesburg, sister city to Samcheok, S. Korea

Dear Mayor Burk.
Dear City Council members.

Samcheok, S. Korea,  became Sister city with Leesburg in 2003.

So, I am asking you to please speak with your counterparts in Samcheok, especially Mayor Yang-Ho Kim, to urge them to enforce their own laws, not ignore them, and to show compassion towards their companion animals, and respect to their own citizens, by bringing these brutal trades finally to an end!

Sincerely:
